Outer Banks, NC

Today I am bringing you a few more of my favorite lighthouse photos that I took
on our trip to the Outer Banks, in North Carolina.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is a very famous light.  It was moved back in 1999, saving it from falling into the ocean.

Ocracoke Lighthouse was our last lighthouse on the Outer Banks.  It wasn't open to the public, so there weren't any good angles to get creative in my picture.
The Ronanoke River Lighthouse was In Edenton,NC.  It had a lovely park/dock area to get great views of the light.

Outer Banks, NC

I thought I would share my favorite lighthouse pictures
from our trip to the Outer Banks.
We added six more lighthouses
to our list of visited lights.
I am sharing three of the lights today.
Below is Currituck lighthouse.
You can read more about this light HERE
I added a vignette frame to these two photos.
On in the town of Manteo, on Roanoke Island, is the Roanoke Marshes lighthouse.  It is a replica of the light that was located at the at the entrance to Croatan Sound.  The town has a great waterfront area full of shops and eateries.

Our next stop was at the Bodie Island Lighthouse.  It just opened up for tours this past April.  You can read more about Bodie island HERE

Stunning Sunsets

We just got back from the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
Since it is a barrier island you can see
 some AMAZING sunsets!
The refection in the above photo was just fabulous.
 I couldn't stop snapping pictures.
These geese flew over us and I was able to grab a couple good silhouette shots.
I found a good article on capturing a STUNNING SUNSET
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies show His handiwork"

Photographing Rainbows

Sometimes you know of a place where rainbows show up like at Rainbow Falls in Hawaii. But most likely they will be a spur of the moment kind of picture.  Recently while on a cruise, I looked off my balcony and saw this.  I ran to get my camera before it disappeared.
I remembered some of the tips from this article I read, "Photographing Rainbows" over at DPS. I like that I was able to capture the end of the rainbow as it fell into the sea.  Then another rainbow appeared faintly above this one.
As quickly as the rainbow appeared, it disappeared just as fast.  What beautiful moment.

Word Art Wednesday

It is time to get this blog back up and running. This photo was taken on the island of St. Maarten, in the Caribbean.  I love the roughness of the shingles, the shape of the windows and the teal that pops on the doorway.

I am using the the scripture from Word Art Wednesday challenge site.  Please go read this weeks devotion on the importance of studying God's word everyday.

Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed day!

Barn Quilts

I am back online and have a lot of pictures to share.  Autumn is our travel month and we spent some time in Illinois and Wisconsin.  Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some of my favorite pictures.
Down the winding roads of Door County Wisconsin,
I found these barns scattered among the farms.
The photos are bit blurry
because some were taken as we drove by.

I like the colors of the quilt squares on the barns.
I love this old rickety barn.
It looks like it has been there for awhile.
Here is a crazy quilt square.
I Googled Barn Quilts and they have actual trails that you can follow and find all these colorful pieces of art.
You may have some near you

Mushrooms

While my hubby and I are walking the trails, I am always looking out for interesting things to shoot.  Today it was mushrooms.

Normally I would have just walked on
by a mushroom growing on the forest floor.
But these tiny gems were so bright they caught my eye.

So then I thought why not see how many
different ones I can find on our walk.

A bit blurry, but I like how it shows the long stem.

I didn't realize they came in so many different colors!

I found a WIKI page on mushrooms.  I think this would make a great science project for the kiddos!
Take your camera out on a hike and see what you can find!
 Happy shooting!

Remembering A Friend

This weeks picture is in memory of my friend Jay.  She went home to be with the Lord this week.  She never loss sight of God during her battle.  I rejoice in that she is in heaven feeling no more pain!

I created this video because Jay loved flowers.  She would create cards and artwork with the pictures she took.  Some of these pictures are from our day at Longwood Gardens a few years ago.  Please take a moment to pray for the Schlueter family.

We will miss you JAY!

Another Secret Garden

While I away at the Namicolin Resort in Pennsylvania, I walked around the grounds.  I was starting to be disappointed be all the formal green landscaping.  Where were the flower gardens???  Then I turned the corner and found this little patio full of statues and flowers.

So I walked around and took some pictures.
I loved the orange on these flowers.
Of course the pink caught my eye!
Then when I was leaning over I found this guy tucked in the leaves.  He is so pretty with the blue and orange colors.

God’s glory shines through
His creation.
Have a blessed day!

Forget-me-not

Alaska's state flower, the wild native Alpine forget-me-not (Myosotis alpestris), grows well throughout Alaska in open, rocky places high in the mountains. I found these flowers during our hikes in Alaska.  They are sooooo tiny.  I love daisys, but I think this may be my new favorite flower.

"But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."

Alaskan Runways

While I was sitting on our balcony, I kept seeing planes taking off right in front of me.  Was it rush hour?

1:50 people have a pilots licences in Alaska.  A lot of the cities in Alaska are only accessible by plane.
This sure is a nice runway!
